Lupe Valdez Progress Report

One of the challenges in the Dallas Jail is that, historically, individuals have remained in jail for longer periods of time than they would in other counties. Pre-trial releases are far rarer in Dallas than in other major Texas Counties, which means that Dallas taxpayers are paying to feed, house and clothe non-violent offenders who in other counties would be released before trial.

Sheriff Valdez and the new Democratic judges and District Attorney are working to accelerate the application of justice in Dallas County. This will lower the jail population, cut down on the amount of waiting, save taxpayer dollars while ensuring that the Dallas County Jail is capable of housing those who need to be removed from society. Jail overpopulation can lead to public safety risks, and Sheriff Valdez is committed to ensuring the safety of Dallas residents.
